Finding Freedom in #MessyHealing: A New Way to Be

Get back on “track”...hm maybe?

When I think about getting back on track, my mind instantly goes to a train🚂because of the word track. I realize this is a common expression that means getting things right or another fun trendy way of saying, course correct. All of this to say that we need to get in line. Ha!

Words and expressions are fun to reflect on. Often I find them lacking in some way. Staying “on track” (pun intended), I think when anyone has gone through something life changing, well they know getting back on track or back to life as we “knew” is not something that feels right or even good. Which is exactly what I have struggled with these last few weeks.

How do I get back on track after so much has happened?

Maybe a new way to say this could be: Finding a NEW way to be. And maybe an even better expression will come to me, later. When I look at that sentence “finding a new way”, it has a sense of AHHHhhh and freedom to it. Like it’s a creative place with no expectations or even better, no restrictions. It gives grace.

Another word that makes me feel relaxed and at ease: grace. It’s generous and forgiving. No one expects me to be back on track. I do. I am wanting to be in a different place than the one I find myself in. I have loads I want to say but then there is this “ not right now” feeling. So I retreat to the safety of my couch and rest.

Why is it so hard for us to rest and allow space?

I think as we become adults the primary thing we learn is how we are measured by our usefulness and productivity.📈 When we cease to do those things for any length of time; being useful and productive, we think we are lazy and unaccomplished. So are we just merely cogs in a wheel of a machine?

But what happens when we allow ourselves time to rest and recover? Such amazing things we can learn about ourselves when we have the time to connect within and find our answers. And then,  we can also find a new way to be.

My rest and recovery period is not yet completed. And in the meantime, while I allow for this space my engine 🚂 of creativity has been burning🔥! I’m exploring new sides of myself that either I have let slide into oblivion or never tried before! It’s exciting. And I feel the new way will most definitely emerge soon.

In the meantime, I promised to show you my new t-shirt. Here it is:

A creative project during messy healing.

“I need to not” a t-shirt that I created, as seen here, and printed as a way to remind myself to stop from doing and just allow myself to rest.

Another creative project I started is this one:

Exploring freedom through art.

I am following an online course on how to use a sketch book to dive deep on one topic. This year my word is Freedom so I am exploring that as my topic.

My word for the year is all about FREEDOM. I will be exploring that through creating this sketch book. Freedom means a few things to me. But the one I like the most I borrow from the lyrics of this song🎶, Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin,

“Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.”
