Emails, Posts, and Attention Spans: How Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs Can Break Through the Noise
The other day I was talking to my husband, about a number of things ADHD over-thinkerš§ here, and one of the topics that I have been really thinking about is how shallow some things have gotten in the way we engage with emails, information, or stories. TLDR (too long didnāt read) is a perfect example of this. I get it, we don't have time.
Or is it, we donāt have interest in it?
I have never been a great reader. Though I really LOVE books! š I often struggled to stay focused if the subject gets predictable. Holla if that is you too.šš»āāļø If by the first sentence in any book they havenāt grabbed my attention enough, Iām pretty much, meh.š And I stop reading it. That is why I love a good crime mystery novel because you have a puzzle to figure out. But they too can get to be pretty predictable. Our fast paced minds need to be fed! And our intuitions being so amazing we can put the predictable dots together before we get to the end of the book (and probably if you are like me you go to the end to validate your predictions)...and voila boredom!
Let's pause here to ponder š:
What makes a story (post, email) so good that you donāt want to stop reading it?
What does it have to have that keeps you engaged?
Over the last few years it has been firmly established that something has to grab our attention in the first 5 seconds or it is lost to us. Apparently all this information overwhelm has greatly diminished our attention spans to this small time window. I think we need start figuring out WHY the vast majority (neurodivergent or not) have become so disconnected from reading and engaging with anything that goes further than the 5 second rule. After all, we are not fish š , we are humans. The question I have on my mind is thisš¤:
When did we become so disinterested in learning about one another?
Perhaps, my assessment feels cynical. The world is shifting in powerful ways whether it is the way we want or not, it is calling for something. To me, what I am seeing is that we are not taking time to listen to each other. And it seems to me by not taking time to listen and understand one another, well, things are pretty dangerous out there. I donāt say that lightly or to create fear. Though, I will not step over or look away from what is going on, either.
If you see yourself as a neurodivergent business owner or someone who has a powerful mission to help others then I believe strongly that you have the right ingredients to bring about change through your amazing abilities with love and compassion. By understanding each other and connecting deeper.
But I believe that can not happen on a social media platform nor in a huge saturated group of people who end up speaking in group mindsets or echo chambers. We need to have open honest places that are safe to talk in. To feel safe to be ourselves and thrive in growing strong so we can bring that out to more people who may feel left behind or lost.
We are the ones the world has been waiting for.
Yes, like the superheroes we all love watching on tv. We have something that hasnāt been championed in our crumbling world. And I am here for it! AND I want to help grow it. My journey through the recent loss of my father & finding my way back to myself have been hard and ongoing. But what is emerging is my profound recommitment to my purpose in life. I can no longer ignore what I feel in my heart and soul that the time is now for us to be who we are, share our amazing gifts & talents to help others.
I feel like these last few months have walked me through these huge transition of loss & grief so that I could remember why I am here doing this work as a coach and energy healer. I would not have gotten through it without the connection I have with my amazing group of neurodivergent ladies who run their own businesses & creative ventures. They understand me because we share our stories, our hardships and our triumphs. I am so grateful for them, words can not express it enough. I know that whatever comes in the future I will have these women to support me as I support them.
Over the next few weeks, I will share more about our very special group and our strong connection. Because it is available to you too. It is what running a business can be like with the help of others who get you, support you, and cheer you on even when things get tough. Who couldn't use that in their business!
Thanks for reading to the end!
